At the end of a long night Thursday the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team had earned a split against River Valley Conference rival Durant. Mid-Prairie took game one 12-7 in nine innings while falling in game two 5-3. Durant got out to a quick start in game one, holding a two to nothing lead after their first at bat. The Golden Hawks tied things at three, then fell behind 4-3, before scoring three times in the sixth to take their first lead of night at 6-4. Durant would counter with three of their own to wrestle the lead back and the Golden Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, down to their last strike, on a balk call. Mid-Prairie then poured it on in the ninth scoring five times to put the game out of reach. Brad Tornow was four for five at the plate with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Kayden Reinier recorded the win in extra innings out of the pen for Mid-Prairie.
In game two it was Mid-Prairie’s turn to get out to a fast start with back-to-back home runs from Aidan Rath and Vinny Bowlin in the second to go up 2-0. In a three run third, the Wildcats took a lead they wouldn’t give up the rest of the night, adding a pair of insurance runs in the fifth. Tornow led Mid-Prairie in the nightcap with a pair of hits. After the split, Mid-Prairie is now 3-2 on the year.
