A tornado touched down near Kalona Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, at 8:20 p.m. there were several reports from trained weather spotters and law enforcement of a tornado on the ground north of Kalona. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen recaps the storm, “There was a tornado that was witnessed in Washington County. It actually touched down just over the Johnson County line. And it formed in somebody’s backyard and then just went through fields. It wasn’t on the ground very long. So, we haven’t had any damage.”
The tornado was located between Highway 1 and County Road W62, just south of 540th Street Southwest.
