Monday featured a much anticipated softball matchup in Winfield, as the 3-1 Wolves welcomed 3-1 Highland to town. In the last 16 meetings between these two clubs the Huskies came out on top in everyone of them, but last night the Wolves exorcised some demons and downed the Goliath that is Highland 5-2.
The Huskies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Wolves answered with two runs in the third and fourth thanks to RBI hits from Keetyn Townsley and Molly Miller. WMU added one more in the fifth and the Huskies scratched across one in the sixth but pitcher Madie Anderson shut the door. The sophomore went all seven innings giving up four hits, two runs, and striking out 14 to add to her 67 in just five games. Townsley went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three stolen bases. Kyndal Townsley, Naya Silva, Jobey Malone, and Anderson also had two hits for the Wolves. Highland’s Megan Hoenig took the loss in the circle going 3 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs. Emily Yahnke was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
WMU moves to 4-1 and face IMS tonight while Highland drops to 3-2 and they host Columbus this evening.
