Season debuts do not get much better than what Highland’s Chase Schultz experienced on Monday. In his first start of 2019 on the bump, the freshman tossed a five-inning perfect game while getting more than enough run support in a 17-0 win against Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe Winfield-Mt. Union.
Schultz was efficient all night only throwing 72 pitches and he racked up 13 strikeouts without giving up a base runner. After a scoreless first, the offense broke out for 13 runs in the second and continued to add on late for the big victory. The Huskies had nine hits led by Jacob Leonard going 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored. Jacob Ford took the loss on the mound for WMU.
Highland improves to 2-1 and face Cardinal tonight while WMU is 0-4 and duels with Central Lee this evening.
