After a couple of false starts due to weather, the Iowa Mennonite School baseball team got their season underway this week with games against Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union winning both. Against the Indians, IMS took a 3-1 win. Wapello got on the board first with a single run in the fourth. IMS took the lead right back in the bottom half with a pair of their own and scratched across an insurance run in the sixth. That was enough for senior Blake Bontrager who went the distance in the win, allowing just three hits, one run, walking four and striking out seven. Bontrager and Noah Miller were both two for two at the plate with Miller driving in a pair and stealing three bases.
On Tuesday, IMS beat visiting Winfield-Mt. Union 9-0. Things started slow for IMS as they got on the board with two runs in the third but the flood gates opened in the fourth as they pushed six runs across the plate, adding one more for good measure in the sixth. Blake Bontrager was two for two with a pair of RBI at the plate, Jacob Boller was two for three with two batted in. Eli Ours collected the win on the mound going five innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight. IMS is now 2-0 as they travel to West Burlington Wednesday.
