During the summer months, Kentucky bluegrass and other cool-season grasses do not need to be fertilized, doing so may increase the occurrence of turf diseases. The correct mowing height for lawns depends on the type of grass. Kentucky bluegrass lawns should be mowed at a height of 3 to 3.5 inches during the summer months. Bluegrass lawns should be mowed at a height of 2.5 to 3 inches in spring and fall. The hot and dry conditions in summer can be stressful, remember that removing more than one-third of the total leaf area at any one time can be damaging to grass.
