Postpartum depression happens for some women after having a baby and a group in Washington is working to raise awareness. According to the Centers for Disease Control, nationwide one in nine women experience symptoms of postpartum depression: intense feelings of sadness, tiredness, or worry. A community education session will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Public Library. The session is being held by Southeast Iowa Emerging Affiliate for Washington County through NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Organizer Julie Todd encourages area women and men to attend, especially those who may be willing to share their families’ stories with working through postpartum depression.
