For the first time in a decade the Mid-Prairie baseball team posted a win over a class 4A foe when they split a doubleheader with Mississippi Athletic Conference member Muscatine this week in Wellman. The Golden Hawks won game one by a 6-4 score before dropping game two 13-3. The Muskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first but Mid-Prairie responded with a six spot in the fourth to go up 6-2 and would withstand a late Muscatine rally for two runs in the sixth to hold on for the win. Colton Hobbs drove in two in the Mid-Prairie win. Keegan Gingerich got the victory throwing five innings, giving up two hits, two runs and striking out nine.
In the nightcap, Muscatine poured it on early, scoring four times in the first, six in the second and three in the third to race out to a 13-2 lead. Mid-Prairie got one in the fifth but it wasn’t enough to keep the game from ending early. Brad Tornow went two for two at the plate. Brody Miller took the loss on the mound. With the split, Mid-Prairie is now 7-5 on the year.
