Some teams and some players have a flair for the dramatic. That was the case for the Washington softball team on Thursday night, as they had a pair of games that went down to the wire before walking away with a pair of victories against Fort Madison.

In game one the Demon bats were cold for six innings and trailed 1-0 heading into the final frame. The switch was turned after that, as they strung a few hits together including a RBI single by Alexa Mitchell to tie the game at 1-1 with a pair of runners on. Haylee Wilson did the rest with a walk-off three run bomb the next at-bat that gave the Demons the 4-1 victory. Head Coach Ben Obermann tells KCII Sports it was a great moment for the senior. “She has seen a lot of pitches and has had a lot of at-bats and to see her come through in the clutch is awesome. Just really happy for her.” Molly Sparks went 2-for-3 and also picked up the win in the circle going seven innings without giving up an earned run and striking out 11.

The momentum continued into game two with Washington scoring twice in the first and fifth to build a 4-0 lead thanks to two RBI hits from Kellie Dallmeyer and Kaitlyn Mitchell. The Bloodhounds made things interesting however, getting on the board in the sixth and managing two in the seventh, but Cara Linnenkamp retired the only two batters she faced to pick up the save and 4-3 Demon win. Alexa Mitchell went 6 1/3 innings pitched of three-run ball giving up six hits and striking out three. Dallmeyer had a pair of knocks and two RBI.

Washington improves to 13-8 and prepare for Fairfield on Monday in a doubleheader that can be heard on KCII.
