The Highland baseball and softball teams made it a quick night Friday against area foe Lone Tree, as they won both games in mercy-rule fashion.
Fresh off of being 10-runned by the Lions earlier in the week, the Huskies returned the favor on the baseball diamond winning 13-1 in five innings. Highland had it get out of hand early plating four runs in the first, six in the second, and three more in the third. Everyone reached base safely in the Huskie offense that managed 13 hits led by Jacob Leonard going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Dan Burton added a pair of hits with three runs knocked in and picked up the win going 3 2/3 innings pitched giving up just one hit and striking out eight. Cade Shield had a RBI single for the Lions and Avery Knock had the loss on the bump. Highland is now 6-5 and Lone Tree is 6-6.
In softball the Lions went 5-2 on the week with both of their losses coming to Highland including a 14-4 defeat on Friday. The Huskies scored in every inning except the third and had a walk-off winner in the sixth. Sarah Schneider went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Dani Laughlin had three runs scored. Grace Batcheller had her first win of the season with four innings pitched giving up three runs. The Huskies are 9-6 and the Lions move to 6-9.
