Rain and wind swept across Iowa Friday and more wet conditions are expected throughout the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, severe storms are likely today and Sunday across the plains from Iowa to Oklahoma. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen says it is important to be weather aware and to keep an eye out for watches or warnings, “Be alert. Know what your risks are, and that’s the big thing. We live in Iowa, you know in the winter we snow and in the spring we see storms. Don’t take it lightly when you hear a warning.”
Also, if you ever encounter a flooded road with standing water, do not try to cross it by foot or in a vehicle. Remember to turn around, don’t drown.
If a severe thunderstorm warning or tornado warnings is issued by the National Weather Service for Washington County, then the KCII Severe Weather Action Team will bring you live up to the minute information of the storm. If the power goes out, KCII will stay on air with our emergency back-up generators. And if you have the free KCII mobile app, then you’ll receive a notification any time the KCII Severe Weather Action Team goes live on the air.
