The baseball and softball diamonds will be busy in Kalona Saturday for the 2019 IMS Classic. The IMS softball team comes into action with an overall record of 2-14, fresh off of their first two wins of the season when they swept Mediapolis on Tuesday by 16-9 and 14-3 scores. On the season, IMS is hitting .228, led by Suzanna Yoder at .419 for the year. In the circle, IMS has a team ERA of 7.11, led by Leah Bontrager at 6.97 with a 2-13 overall record in 78 innings.
In the first round, IMS will match up with Danville who is 4-8 on the year. Last time out they lost to Van Buren 6-5. For the season the Bears are hitting .267, led by Alyssa Pfadenhauer at .474. In the circle Danville has a team ERA of 3.27 led by Ava Smith with a 3-3 record in 53 innings of work and a 3.65 ERA. Last year these two teams met with Danville taking a 13-1 win.
Also joining IMS in their home tournament at the Columbus Wildcats and Van Buren Warriors. The Wildcats come into the weekend with an overall record of 3-15. They fell at Winfield-Mt. Union 10-5 last time out. The Wildcats are hitting .298 as a team, led by Grace Conwell with a .408 average. In the circle Columbus has a team ERA of 7.82, led by Libby White with an 0-6 record but 6.24 ERA in 37 innings. The Wildcats beat IMS 7-6 earlier this season.
The Van Buren Warriors come into the tournament with an overall record of 12-9. The Warriors are hitting .327 as a team, led by Lexi Jirak with a .463 average. In the circle they have a team ERA of 2.99, led by Chelsea Huff with a 5-6 record in 67 innings with a 2.90 ERA.
In the boys side of the tournament, IMS comes in with a 9-6 overall record after a split with Pekin on Thursday, losing one game 11-1 while winning the other 8-7. For the year IMS is hitting .291 as a team, led by Blake Bontrager and his .415 average. On the mound IMS has a team ERA of 4.17 led by Eli Ours and Trevor Leyden with a combined 5-0 record and 1.25 ERA.
IMS is joined at the tournament by Keokuk and Danville. The Chiefs enter the game with an overall record of 1-15. Last time out they fell to Durant 7-4. On the season the Chiefs are hitting .189 led by Dalton Boecker and his .351 average. The Chiefs have a team ERA of 9.79 led by Boecker with a 3.75 ERA in 10 innings of work. These two teams met a year ago with IMS taking a 5-0 win.
Danville comes into the game with an overall record of 1-12. The Bears are hitting .176 as a team, led by Tristan Miller with a .226 average. On the mound the Bears have a team ERA of 8.93, led by Reid Yaley with a 1-2 record and 6.59ERA. These two teams met a year ago with IMS taking a 17-2 win.
