ims-4

The Iowa Mennonite School softball team avenged a pair of losses to the Columbus Wildcats and scored their third win of the season Thursday in a weather shortened 11-3 victory in five innings. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, it was IMS that got on the board first with two runs in the first inning as Rubye Ney and Mia Graber came around to score. IMS added four more to their lead as they batted around in the third with runs scored by Miller, Gutierrez, Norah Yoder and Leah Bontrager and RBI from Bontrager and Suzanna Yoder. Trailing 6-0, Columbus broke through with three runs in the fourth, using five straight walks to do their damage. With their lead cut in half, IMS responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth including a Suzanna Yoder double with an error that allowed her to circle the bases behind a pair of teammates. With IMS on top 11-3 in the fifth, hazardous weather moved into the area and the game was stopped early. Sarah Miller was three for three with three singles, two runs scored and an RBI. Columbus had just one hit on the night, it was a single from Grace Conwell in the third. Leah Bontrager got the win despite walking 11 batters. IMS is now 3-19 on the year, Columbus falls to 4-17.
