Two KCII area softball teams met on Thursday night with Winfield-Mt. Union defeating Lone Tree on the road 5-1.
It was a pitcher’s duel for a while with the first run coming in the fourth in favor of the Lions. The Wolves had all of their scoring come in the fifth headlined by Keetyn Townsley, Anna Anderson, and Jobey Malone all knocking in a run. Molly Miller led the six-hit Wolves offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Madie Anderson had another strong performance in the circle throwing six innings giving up just one run on four hits and striking out 11.
WMU improves to 14-8 and hosts Danville on Tuesday. The Lions drop to 8-13 and welcome Calamus-Wheatland to town on Monday.
