highland-huskies5-6

It was another weekend tournament Saturday for the Highland softball team and they split two games in Alburnett.

They opened the day handling the host Pirates 10-0 in six innings. The Huskies did have to sweat it out for a while, as the game was scoreless through four when Highland had three in the fifth inning and broke out for seven in the sixth. The team had 10 hits led by Dani Laughlin and Abbie Miller each going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Megan Hoenig was stellar in the circle going six shutout innings giving up just two hits, no walks, and striking out eight.

A tough fifth inning doomed the Huskies in a 7-4 game two defeat against Bondurant-Farrar. Highland led 4-2 heading into that frame when the Bluejays put up a five spot that proved to be the difference. Laughlin and Miller recorded the only hits for the team. Grace Batcheller threw four innings giving up five runs on five hits.

The Huskies are now 15-8 and they get back on the diamond this evening hosting Mediapolis.
