In a measuring stick style doubleheader Tuesday at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team passed the test, earning a split with No. 1 Wilton by 12-1 and 4-3 scores. In game one, Wilton broke things open early, up 1-0, they got a two out bases loaded double from Chantz Stevens to go up 4-0 and would continue to add on from there, scoring in every inning but the fifth en route to the mercy rule win. Their 12 runs were more than enough for starter Jared Townsend who gave up just three hits in the game. Vinnie Bowlin led the Mid-Prairie offense with a two for three night at the plate.

Game two was the Brad Tornow show as the Hawks exacted revenge on Wilton and gave the Beavers their first loss to a 2A school all year long with a 4-3 win. Wilton went up 2-0 in their half of the first on a Colin McCrab two run homer, but Mid-Prairie rallied for three runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead. McCrab tied the game in the third with a solo shot and then weather sent the game into a lightning delay. Out of the delay, Colton Hobbs doubled home Tornow after his second hit of the night and that was more than enough for the Mid-Prairie junior on the mound. Tornow went the distance in the win, striking out 17, punching out seven of the last eight batters he faced and throwing an immaculate inning in the fourth. With the split, Mid-Prairie is now 13-9 on the year.
