If you are looking to improve property in Washington, the City is now offering a plan to help demolish dilapidated homes. The Washington City Council adopted the housing infill partner program with the aim of encouraging redevelopment. Mayor Jaron Rosien says it can help with the cost of demolition, “$5,500 for a single-family home or $7,500 for a duplex or more that would be reimbursement for demolition. This does put a fund level of $30,000 a year, pending availability of funds.” The program’s purpose is to improve Washington’s neighborhoods and the housing stock overall. To continually fund the program, valuations of homes constructed under the program will be tracked and part of the taxes collected under the general levy will be redirected to the housing infill program so it can be self-sustaining. Applications can be picked up at city hall.
