The campus of Iowa Mennonite School will be busy Saturday night as the 1A baseball playoffs get underway with a doubleheader. In game one, Keota meets Pekin while IMS hosts New London in game two. The Eagles open up the playoffs with an overall record of 15-5, winners of six in a row, including a doubleheader sweep of Winfield-Mt. Union Monday by a combined 28-3 score. For the year, Keota is hitting .290, led by Colten Clarahan and his .439 average. The Eagles have a team ERA of 2.47 with Clarahan leading the way with a 4-2 record and 1.44 ERA in 39 innings of work.
Pekin comes into the game with an overall record of 13-8. Last time out they beat Louisa-Muscatine 7-2. On the season the Panthers are hitting .329 as a team, led by Caleb Comstock and his .485 average. On the mound Pekin has a team ERA of 3.90, led by Brady Latcham with a 1.95 ERA and 3-1 record in 29 innings of work.
In game two, IMS comes in with an overall record of 11-7. Last time out they beat Winfield-Mt. Union 9-0 behind a no-hitter from Eli Ours. On the year, IMS is hitting .295 as a team, led by Blake Bontrager with his .423 average. On the mound IMS has a team ERA of 3.72, led by Trevor Leyden and Eli Ours with a combined 7-0 record and ERA under one for the season.
New London comes into the game with an overall mark of 9-11. The Tigers beat Sigourney in a shoot out Wednesday 13-11. For the year, New London is hitting .301 as a team, led by Shae Summerfield with his .424 average. On the season, the Tigers have a team ERA of 5.18, led by Seth Bailey with a 4-1 record in 28 innings and a 2.96 ERA. These two teams last met a year ago for the district title with IMS taking an 8-3 win.
