Two pitchers with a sub-2.5 ERA matched up in Winfield on Wednesday night for a class 1A regional softball quarterfinal and the game played out exactly how you would expect. BGM’s Kelsey Lint and Winfield-Mt. Union’s Madie Anderson went toe-to-toe the entire game with the Bears coming out on top of a 2-1 low-scoring affair.

The Wolves’ Carlee Sloan scored the game’s first run in the first and that score held true until the fourth when the Bears took the lead on a two-RBI double from Kaylee Lint that proved to be the difference. Kelsey Lint went all seven innings in the circle giving up six hits and one run. Despite the loss, Anderson was efficient going the distance in 81 pitches giving up just two hits on one earned run and striking out 12. The sophomore also had a double to lead the six-hit Wolves offense.

WMU closes the year 18-9 and they bid farewell to seniors Isabella Mertens, Liana Sweezer, and Naya Silva.
