The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team cruised through their first round district contest Saturday in Kalona, beating New London 8-4. The Tigers scored twice in the top of the first against IMS starter Blake Bontrager, but IMS responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and wouldn’t give up the lead the rest of the night. With a 3-2 advantage, IMS posted a five run, ten batter, second inning and parlayed that into the victory. The game was not without adversity for IMS who lost starting short stop and senior Trevor Leyden to a broken pelvis in the third inning, an injury which prompted a delay and medical personnel to respond. London Schrock was one for two with four RBI, Blake Bontrager was two for four at the plate and drove in two. He also recorded the win on the mound going six innings, allowing six hits, three runs, walking one and striking out six. IMS is now 12-7 on the year and will meet Highland in the second round of district play Tuesday at Burlington Notre Dame High School.
