Authorities searched a residence in Washington after someone shot a mailbox near Brighton Sunday. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, a man in a brown car pointed a shotgun out of the car’s window and shot a mailbox. There was also damage to a demo car. The incident happened at 1741 Highway 78, southeast of Brighton. Law enforcement officers with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Conservation responded to the scene. They, along with Jefferson County, Louisa County, and Iowa State Patrol attempted to locate the suspect vehicle.
About nine hours later, a search warrant was executed in reference to the earlier incident. The search was conducted at 608 East Second Street in Washington. The search was conducted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Washington Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources.
