Nearly 10,000 bicyclists are making their way towards Fairfield.
Today is day four of RAGBRAI, Iowa’s largest and longest bicycle ride. Riders will rest up tonight in Centerville before continuing northeast towards Fairfield. For the first time since 2013, Fairfield was selected to host an overnight stay. The city’s theme this year is, “Geared for Weird.” The theme will feature live steampunk musical performances by The Eternal Frontier, The Ragged Blade Band, and No Limits. Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy says he is excited to show off the city, “We’re looking for people to enjoy our community and get into the theme of steampunk, and enjoy the bands we have lined up. I think we’re in for an exciting night.”
Participants will finish day five in Fairfield then ride through Henry and Des Moines Counties, passing Stockport, Salem, Houghton, and Middletown before stopping in Burlington after 65.9 miles. You can hear live updates from RAGBRAI on KCII as the Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from 1-5 p.m. in Fairfield on the latest stop of the KCII Summer Town Tour.
