Iowa’s corn crop is 12 days behind last year and one full week behind the five-year average. According to the USDA, 42% of corn in southeast Iowa is silking and the five-year average is 71%. Soybeans are also behind with 47% of the state’s soybeans blooming and the five-year average is 72%. Southeast Iowa is even further behind with 26% of soybeans blooming as of this week. Iowa’s oats are about nine days behind the average with only 12% harvested for grain so far. Iowa’s corn is rated at 11% excellent, 52% good, 28% fair, and nine percent poor to very poor. Soybeans are rated at nine percent excellent, 55% good, 29% fair, and seven percent poor to very poor.
