The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team takes their first official steps toward the 2019 season this week when they travel to Simpson College for a team camp. This camp is conducted by head coach Matt Jeter and his staff Monday, July 29th and Tuesday, July 30th. It’s a full contact, padded team camp that focuses on individual instruction, team practice, full contact, and scrimmages. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about a typical day at camp and what he hopes his players take from the experience. “We started going to a camp around 2012 or 2013. We wanted something that would let the guys get going on football a little early. We thought it would be great to bring our varsity together to get some practices in before the season started. We take around 25 guys and stay the night, scrimmage against some teams from central Iowa. It’s been good for us. It allows us to evaluate the players and gives them a chance to get after it a little bit before the season starts.”

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks open up the season August 30th when they host Grinnell.
