New this year, every Washington Middle School student and freshman must attend an informational session about the 1:1 computer program. For the first time, middle school students and freshmen will be taking home their school computers during the school year. Superintendent Willie Stone said every student, alongside a parent and guardian, must attend, “Students and parents must attend the entire time. And if you’ve had students go through it already and you’ve sat through it once as a parent, I’m sorry, but we want you to sit through it again. It’s required that you sit through it again with your new student. We did have, at the end of the year last year, we let some of our middle schoolers start taking their stuff home, their computer home as a trial, so we’re going to kick it out for everybody.” Families will also sign paperwork at the program.
Every session will be held in the Washington High School auditorium. The district is offering four different times for people to attend August 7th from 7-9 p.m., August 13th 11-1 p.m., August 21st 7-9 p.m. and August 24th 9-11 a.m.
