Four KCII-area cities will soon be a bit greener thanks to the Branching Out program from Trees Forever and Alliant Energy. Communities could apply for grants of up to $5,000 for new trees to add beauty and save energy. At Washington High School new plants will go in with a $3,280 grant. Columbus Junction received $2,000 for planting around the buildings at Carson Chin Baptist Church. Wapello will be planting at North Park campground with a $250 grant. A $500 grant is going to North English to replace storm-damaged and diseased trees along the streets. This is the 29th year of the Branching Out tree-planting program from Alliant Energy and Trees Forever.
