As the Iowa State Fair continues, businesses from Kalona are showing what makes Kalona unique.
Ten businesses from Kalona are exhibiting their goods at a shared booth inside the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says it’s a sense of pride to show the entire state what Kalona has to offer, “There’s kind of an immediate financial impact with the sales through the state fair booth, but I think the bigger impact is a little bit harder to put a financial number to, and that’s just getting your name out there, getting your community out there. We promote heavily the things in our community, and also in Washington County, that people can come enjoy and see, so we can kind of showcase our community.”
This year marks 35 years Kalona commerce has been represented at the fair. The Iowa State Fair runs through August 18th in Des Moines.
