Scam phone calls of people impersonating Alliant Energy have been received in Washington. The Washington Chamber of Commerce says that a chamber member received such a phone call. The person claims to be from Alliant Energy and threatens to cut off utilities without immediate payment. Alliant Energy will not ask customers to purchase prepaid credit cards to avoid disconnection, it will not ask for payment or personal information over email, and company representatives will not ask for money when visiting a business or residence. Do not give the impersonator personal information over the phone.

Alliant Energy representatives will always be able to confirm your account address, current bill amount, and balance due over the phone. Also, the energy company will provide past due notifications in writing before shutting a service off. The company vehicles are typically white with Alliant Energy logos displayed on both sides.
