A house in Washington caught fire as severe storms rolled through Washington County Tuesday morning. At around 8:45 a.m. the Washington County Safety Center received an emergency call for a house fire caused by a lightning strike at 723 N. 2nd Avenue in Washington. Smoke could be seen coming from second floor windows on the northeast and east sides of the home. Fire crews entered the home with air tanks and equipment to take out windows and check for hot spots.

Reporting to the scene were Washington Fire Department, Ainsworth Fire Department, Washington police, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Emergency Management, and Alliant Energy. KCII will bring you more information when it becomes official.
