As we near the kickoff to the fall sports season, we take a look at the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football schedule in 2019. Mid-Prairie will face off with Grinnell, Pekin, Wilton, and Iowa City Liberty in non-district play while taking on Central Lee, Williamsburg, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Albia and Davis County within the district. Mid-Prairie will make road trips to take on the Beavers, Raiders, Rockets and Blue Demons this year. The season will open August 30th in Wellman against Grinnell. Homecoming will be September 20th against the Liberty Lightning. Senior Night will be October 18th against Davis County.
The schedule features a pair of district champions from a year ago in Williamsburg and Wilton. Mid-Prairie’s nine opponents went a combined 39-46 last season. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about the strength of the schedule and the district this year. “It’s a great schedule, our first four games are great games as far as fans are concerned. We play Grinnell and Liberty who are two ascending 3A schools, Pekin is traditionally very good and Wilton was a playoff team last year. There’s no dogs in there we are going to have to be ready to go. In the district, hopefully we can compete. Obviously Williamsburg is the team to beat and they always will be. I think the first part of the year will be a good measuring stick for how we are going to be.”
The Golden Hawks were 3-6 a year ago, 3-2 in district play, collecting wins against Central Lee, Davis County and Albia.
