If you have driven around the city of Wellman lately you have likely noticed many trees with red markings. Wellman City Administrator Kelly Litwiller says the trees have been marked for several upcoming projects. Those that bear a red “X” are some of the many ash trees around town that will be removed because of damage done by the Emerald Ash Borer. Not all of the trees in the city affected by the pest have been marked, crews are continuing that work. The red ropes around certain trees were placed there by Alliant Energy to mark trees with limbs that are within 10 feet of power lines in the city right of way. Alliant will be trimming them at no cost to the city, or the city’s contractor will remove the tree and stump. The projects are expected to start in December.
