A bullet and stab protective vest is coming to the Washington Police Department’s new K9 officer. Dex’s new vest is a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s. The Massachusetts-based organization provides protective vests to agencies for dogs in law enforcement across the United States. Each vest has a value between $1,744 and $2,283 with a five-year warranty. There’s an estimated 3,000 law enforcement K9s across the country.
K9 Dex is partnered with handler Officer Seth Adam. The pair completed a six-week training earlier this summer and Dex was sworn into the Washington Police Department on July 2nd. Dex is trained in narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, tracking, and handler protection.
