The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team will step onto the gridiron for the first time in 2019 Friday when they travel to Bloomfield for a scrimmage with Davis County. The Cobras are coming off of a 5-4 season a year ago. SK racked up 3,267 total yards including 2,985 on the ground third most in class 2A. The Cobras had 36 total touchdowns a season ago. Individually, SK was led by JD Stout through the air at 13 of 34 for 256 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Stout also led the way on the ground with 1,150 yards on 180 carries and 21 touchdown. He returns for his senior season this year. Defensively the Cobras return their top two tacklers from last year in Trent Hendricks and Brady Duwa. Hendricks accounted for 55.5 stops and four tackles for loss.
Davis County was 3-6 a season ago. The Mustangs had 2,914 total yards with 2,018 of that coming on the ground with 31 touchdowns as a team. Davis County will have to replace quarterback Dreven Dekraai, who finished his senior season 80 of 155 for 871 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He was also the leading ground gainer for the Mustangs finishing with 1,300 yards on 209 attempts and 15 touchdowns. Davis County graduated their top four rushers from last season. They return their second leading receiver Gavin McCall with 18 catches, 178 yards and a pair of scores last year. Davis County’s second leading tackler Riley Heller with his 45.5 stops last year is the leading returner.
