The 2019 Iowa High School Football year commences tonight with a few week zero matchups and Columbus Community will start their journey hosting Cardinal.
The Wildcats are looking to build the program back up after a 0-9 campaign last year. Bawi UK will take over the reigns at quarterback and will have their top five receivers from last year to throw to including Will Schwab with 144 yards and three scores. Columbus will look to improve offensively after just 12 points a game in 2018. Cardinal won their first four games last year before fading down the stretch falling in their final five contests. The Comets return their leading rusher in Gabe Reyes with 454 yards and four touchdowns. Wildcat head coach Tyler Kibbee told KCII Sports what he expects from Cardinal. “They lost a lot of seniors but I also know they have tough guys coming back. Their quarterback throws a nice ball and their tailback is a physical runner. They run a 3-5 defense and we need to set the line of scrimmage early to dictate the physicality of the game.”
The season gets underway at 7 p.m. tonight at Columbus Community High School.
