Prepare to cycle and run in the 9th Annual Flying Pigs Duathlon. The race has three sections: a 5K run, followed by a 20-mile bike ride, and concludes with 1.5 mile run. Organizer Terri Hartzler says they hold the event to coincide with another downtown Washington event, “We have several people from out of town that always come, so it’s always a good event. We collaborate that with the craft sale that goes on in the square, so it’s nice to get more people, draw more people into the community to enjoy that.” Both events will be held Saturday, September 7th. Hartzler adds that about 80 people take part in the race. There are individuals who do all three legs of the race or teams of two with one person running and the other cycling.
Registration can be done online through the Washington YMCA or in person the morning of the event. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.
