While corn and soybeans in Iowa are still behind the five-year average, some much needed rain fell across the state last week to help alleviate conditions. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says 96% of the state’s corn is silking, nine days behind the five-year average. In southeast Iowa, 94% of corn is silking and 46% has reached the dough stage. Corn is rated at 11% excellent, 54% good, 25% fair, and 10% poor to very poor. Soybeans in the state are 10 days behind average with 93% blooming and 71% setting pods. In southeast Iowa soybeans are a bit further behind with 89% blooming and 49% setting pods. Soybeans are rated at 10% excellent, 51% good, 28% fair, and 11% poor to very poor.
