The first day of the volleyball season is upon us and that means the annual WACO tournament with a few other area teams competing.
The Warriors will welcome area schools Sigourney and Columbus Community while Wapello, Centerville, Pekin, Van Buren, and West Burlington will also be competing. High hopes surround the Warriors this year after a 16-13 season in 2018 and they bring back plenty of talent including all SEISC players in Aubri Garnsey and Laney Graber. They had 4.5 digs and 7.4 assists per set last year, respectively. Sigourney will look to respond after an 8-21 year and they bring back the team leader in blocks with 37 from Kaylee Weber. Columbus was 5-26 and they return Kayla Beenen with 106 kills. WACO head coach Jay Coble tells KCII Sports it’ll be a tough night of games. “There is always good competition at this tournament. Van Buren will be favored to win the conference and West Burlington will be strong. They will be on the other side of the bracket and our side is going to be tough as well.”
All of the action gets underway at 5 p.m. this evening in Wayland.
