The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is happening in Iowa through Labor Day. The Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, says drivers impaired by any substance whether that’s alcohol or drugs, should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle. In 2017, one person died every 48 minutes in a drunk-driving crash in the United States. And these fatalities are approximately one-third of all traffic deaths each year. In 2017, that was 10,874 people. In Iowa, during last year’s three-day Labor Day weekend there were five traffic fatalities. Extra law enforcement will be out in support of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Before going to a party, have a safe way home established with a sober driver.
