Many people will have a three-day weekend away from work with Labor Day observed on Monday. The federal holiday is observed annually on the first Monday of September and was passed by Congress in 1894 as a legal holiday to honor workers across the United States. Many businesses and offices will be closed for the federal holiday. Banks, city halls, court houses, and post offices will be closed. Also, the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail Monday. Schools will not hold classes.
