Nearly half of Iowa is now abnormally dry. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 49.8% of Iowa is abnormally dry and nearly 7% is in moderate drought. The dry conditions stretch from northwest Iowa diagonally to southeast Iowa. Nearly 400,000 Iowans are in drought areas. Washington County is mostly abnormally dry with the southeastern third in moderate drought. All of Louisa County is in moderate drought, as is most of Henry County. All of Jefferson and Keokuk Counties are abnormally dry along with most of Iowa and Johnson Counties.
