A trip south to Missouri on Friday night went as planned for the WACO football team, as they defeated a 2018 playoff team in North Shelby 48-38.
Third year signal caller Nik Coble looked impressive in his senior debut being involved in five of the six Warrior touchdowns including opening up an early 12-0 lead on an eight yard touchdown run and a 23 yard pass to Will Edeker that reached the endzone. He tacked on another rushing score in the second, but North Shelby showed some life trailing just 18-12 at the break. The third quarter was all WACO, as they stretched the lead to 48-18 on two receiving touchdowns from Jalen Collins, one from Jaden Williams, and a 46-yard scamper from Coble that put the game out of reach. North Shelby had three late scores that made the final tally look closer than it actually was. Coble was seven of 15 through the air for 121 yards and 151 on the ground. Robert Frazer had three receptions for 65 yards and Jaden Williams had nine tackles. Head Coach Chad Edeker liked how his defense kept the Raiders’ veer offense in check. “They were a physical team and I thought we did a great job of being physical as well. We ran a 3-3 against them and our down lineman did a nice job containing the dive while our linebackers took care of the quarterback. I was really impressed with our defense.”
The Warriors move to 1-0 on the year and get back on the gridiron Friday hosting Janesville.
