The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team invaded Bear Country on Saturday traveling to West Branch and the first tournament of the season resulted in a title.

The Wolves went 4-1 on the day to win the tournament. They opened pool play defeating Prince of Peace (24-22, 23-21) and Wapello (21-7, 21-12) but then fell to West Branch (24-22, 12-21, 10-15). They advanced to the semifinals where they downed Don Bosco (22-25, 25-22, 15-12) and then got revenge on the Bears in the title match with a nail biting three set victory (23-25, 26-14, 15-13). Jenna Buffington had a big day with 45 kills, Kayla Edwards 69 assists, and Jami Wilkerson 56 digs.

WMU improves to 5-2 on the young season and they open conference play Thursday at Pekin.
