Waterworks Park in Fairfield will be the home for five KCII area cross country teams tonight, as they compete in a 21-team meet.
Washington, Hillcrest Academy, Highland, Lone Tree, and Winfield-Mt. Union will all be making the trip south. The Huskie girls’ squad is coming off of a team championship at Keota on Monday including a second place finish from Madison Thomann. The Wolves also competed this week and Brody Barton finished eighth on the boys’ side at Keosauqua. Washington head coach Stefanie Haworth tells KCII Sports Waterworks Park is a runner friendly course. “Our team really loves that course. They run around a pond and through timber so they are in the shade quite a bit and the sun isn’t beating down on them. They are also away from people so they can just run. We usually run very well at that course and we will see familiar competition.”
The action gets underway at 5 p.m. in Fairfield.
