The Winfield-Mt. Union football team lost their first road game of the year Friday, falling to Montezuma 76-48. The Wolves offense continued their terrific early season, posting 379 yards of total offense in the loss. Daunte Oepping was again the catalyst, racking up 255 all-purpose yards. Oepping was seven of 13 through the air for a touchdown and two interceptions. On the ground he had 31 carries for 184 yards and three more scores. Juanito Piper had a pair of touchdowns and 74 yards rushing. Andrew Brady also found the end zone for the Wolves. Piper led the Wolves defense with 11 tackles. WMU registered four tackles for loss and one sack. The Wolves also forced three turnovers with Piper picking off a pass and Oepping and Caleb Faler recovering fumbles. The Wolves defense couldn’t completely slow down the Braves offense however, despite the turnovers the Braves put up 565 yards of total offense, led by quarterback Eddie Burgess and his 448 yard night. He was 15 of 22 through the air for 297 yards and an incredible eight touchdowns. He rushed for another 151 yards and a score. With the loss, Winfield-Mt. Union is now 1-2 on the year and they host Iowa Valley on Friday.
