The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team is rolling, coming into this Friday’s Homecoming matchup with the Iowa City Liberty Lightning. The Golden Hawks have a 2-1 overall record including back to back wins over Pekin and Wilton by a combined 83-6 score. For the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Brad Tornow through the air at 24 of 40 for three touchdowns, one interception and 401 yards. His favorite target is Jack Baker with eight catches for 94 yards. On the ground, Kayden Reinier has 57 attempts for 336 yards and six touchdowns. Justice Jones leads the way defensively with 19 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Iowa City Liberty comes into the game with an overall mark of 2-1. They suffered their first defeat of the season last week at home against Washington 38-31. On the year the Lightning are led by Drake Woody through the air at 20 for 40 for 355 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target is Kaleb Williams with 10 catches for 123 yards and a score. The Lightning rushing attack is led by Max Tafolla with 60 carries for 381 yards and four touchdowns. Williams leads the Lightning defense with 25 tackles. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about the matchup with Liberty. “We see it as an opportunity. They are a very good team. They return all of their players including a senior class of more than 20. They are a smash mouth downhill team. It is certainly going to take our best game of the year to get the win. Should be a great atmosphere with a great crowd on Homecoming.”
