Highland Dean of Students Bill Zywiec ran 23.25 miles Thursday. All of those steps were taken as part of the Husky Code of Conduct Challenge. Earlier this year, it was agreed that for every student seen going above and beyond to show proper conduct, Zywiec would run one half of a lap around Highland’s track. But, Zywiec told KCII news this whole ordeal wasn’t his idea. In fact, he wasn’t even consulted before it was announced,
“Our wrestling coach Derick Ball kind of put this together. We have our Husky Code of Conduct where we encourage our kids to treat each other the right way. He put a challenge out to the students that for each instance of good conduct recorded I would run half a lap. I had no clue that was what I was gonna do until he opened his mouth.” But, to Zywiec his run was all worth is to send the right message to his students.
“We want them to be good people. And we want them to understand that there are going to be challenges in life and you have to work hard and push through it.” The Huskies are celebrating Homecoming this week.
