Wet conditions are expected across the Midwest this weekend with heavy rainfall a concern, which could lead to localized flash flooding. The National Weather Service states several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Saturday into Sunday. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen advises people to pay attention to weather forecasts and be careful around any flooded areas, and to watch out for flash floods, “They develop very rapidly. It’s usually as a result of heavy rains. And as little as six inches of standing water with a current can knock you off your feet. And it only takes about a foot-and-a-half to wash away a small car. So if there’s ever standing water, don’t go into it on foot or in your vehicle.”
A flash flood watch is in effect into Sunday evening for Washington, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, and Louisa counties. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
