Iowa’s unemployment rate remained below the national rate in the month of August. According to Iowa Workforce Development, Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.5% last month and the U.S. rate was 3.7%. Director of IWD Beth Townsend says the number of working Iowans went up 5,800. She says there’s still a need in Iowa for more skilled workers to fill “tens of thousands of open jobs across the state.” The total number of working Iowans increased to 1,686,200 in August, that’s 39,300 higher than one year ago.
