A road of historical significance in Louisa County is being recognized – the Convict Road. The road was built in Fredonia in 1914. It was one of the first concrete streets in rural America. The labor on the project was performed by local inmates. A dedication ceremony for the road includes Deputy Director of Institution for the Iowa Department of Corrections William Sperfslage, Will Thompson, and Iowa Representative David Kerr. The Red Flag Horseless Carriage Auto Group is leading a procession down Convict Highway to Highway 92 and then west to the Louisa County Fairgrounds. The dedication begins at 12:30 p.m. today at the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction.
