After a week full of adversity, there were no signs of side effects from the Washington football team last night, as they humbled previously unbeaten Keokuk 49-6 at Case Field.
The Demons wasted little time on their homecoming, marching right down the field on the opening drive and capped it off with a 20 yard scoring strike from Luke Turner to Ethan Hunt. Things were just getting started for the Demon offense, as Turner ran one in from four yards out, had a 19-yard touchdown pass to Zac Stout, and Wyatt Stout punched one in to make it 28-0 late in the half. Keokuk got some momentum heading into the break scoring a touchdown with nine seconds left to make it 28-6 at intermission. The Chiefs’ hopes were quickly dashed in the third when Wyatt Stout and Turner added rushing scores and Zac Stout made an athletic 30-yard grab in the end zone to make it 49-6. With two minutes left to go in the quarter the game went into a lightning delay and soon after both sides declared the contest was finished. Turner was 14 of 21 through the air for 175 yards and three touchdowns with two more on the ground. Zac Stout had six receptions for 116 yards and the two scores. Dillan Sanders and Trashaun Willis each had interceptions defensively that set up a short field for the offense. Lucas Kroll managed seven tackles. Head Coach James Harris tells KCII Sports he liked how his defense performed holding a potent Keokuk offense to 97 total yards. “Our d-line fundamentals have been much better since the Liberty game. If we get off the ball, shoot our hands, and play our gap good things happen. Defense is about 11 guys doing their job and we did that tonight.”
Washington officially moves to 4-1 and the Chiefs drop to 1-4. The Demons gear up for Solon (5-0) for Heroes Night on Friday.
